The challenge of change.
Come and hear about some of the current initiatives underway to assist this fledgling nation’s unique challenges:
- 47% of the population are under 17
- it’s among the 10 most poorest nations
- has almost no functioning health system
- it has one of the highest birth rates in the world
- approx 80% of children are infected intestinal parasites.

Dominic Bowen, of Australian Aid International (AAI):
Dominic will talk about the unique challenges Timor-Leste faces and AAI’s involvement. AAI is an Humanitarian NGO particularly active in emergency responses.
Dr Kevin Baker, an Australian Anesthetist:
Dr Baker present his experiences in Timor-Leste over the last few years and an insight from his perspective - he has run trauma clinics in Timor.
Sue England of Cooperative Café Timor (CCT):
Sue will discuss some of the Maternal and Child Health issues facing
Timor-Leste. CCT is supported by USAID and Sue is their Maternal and Child
Health Advisor currently working in Timor-Leste.
